Privacy Policy — GEAR

Last updated: 19 August 2026

GEAR does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data. Everything the app creates — your presets, amp captures, impulse responses, recordings and settings — stays on your own device unless you deliberately move it somewhere yourself.

There is no account to create, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. The app does not connect to the internet.

What GEAR stores, and where

All of it lives on your device:

On iPad this is inside the app's own storage. On Mac it is in your user Library folder. Deleting the app removes it.

Your audio

GEAR needs access to audio input to do its job — processing the signal from your guitar or audio interface in real time.

That audio is processed on your device and is not recorded, stored or transmitted unless you turn on DI recording. When you do, the resulting WAV files are written to your device, where only you can reach them: the Files app on iPad, or your Music folder on Mac. They are never uploaded anywhere, and GEAR does not play them back or read them again.

Bluetooth

GEAR uses Bluetooth solely to connect to MIDI controllers such as a footswitch. It is not used for location, for identifying you, or for any form of tracking or advertising.

iCloud sync — your iCloud, not ours

GEAR can optionally sync presets and their associated files through a folder you nominate in your own iCloud Drive.

That folder is yours. Your files travel between your own devices via your own Apple account, under Apple's terms. Helix Projects Limited operates no servers, receives no copy, and has no access to anything in it. The feature is entirely optional and off until you choose a folder.

If you share that folder with someone else, be aware you are sharing its contents with them — including any amp captures or impulse responses, which may carry licence terms from whoever created them.

What Apple sees

GEAR is distributed through the App Store and TestFlight, and Apple provides us with the standard developer reports: anonymised download and usage statistics, and crash reports if you have opted into sharing them with developers in your device settings.

This comes from Apple, not from anything inside GEAR, and it does not identify you. Apple's own privacy policy governs it.

Children

GEAR is a tool for musicians and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct and delete personal data an organisation holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request — but if you have a question about this policy, or want to confirm that for yourself, please get in touch.

Changes

If GEAR ever gains a feature that changes any of the above, this page will be updated before that feature is released, and the date at the top will change with it.
